riroriro or Grey Warbler enjoys a wide range of suitable environments in which to thrive but swamps are particularly attractive to them due to the abundance of insects.
The Shining Cuckoo lays its own egg in the riroriro nest but most riroriro have raised at least one clutch before the Shining Cuckoo arrives here for the summer. They are one of the most successful breeders in this country.
I love photographing these little birds as the challenge comes from the fact that they never sit still for long enough to get the shot. This keeps the photographer on their toes trying to keep up with these birds as they move from one resting place to another.
